Awareness raising seminar on ongoing reform process of the Public Prosecution Service in the Republic of Moldova

As a follow up to already provided assistance the Council of Europe, in the scope of its “Support to Criminal Justice Reforms in the Republic of Moldova”, together with National Institute of Justice of the Republic of Moldova, has organized an awareness raising seminar on the PPS reform process on 16th of September, 2015 in Chisinau, Moldova.
The Seminar gathered together about 60 high and mid-level prosecutors from Central apparatus of the Public Prosecution Service and from all regional prosecutorial offices and it aimed at raising awareness among them on the details of the ongoing PPS reform process.
During the seminar Council of Europe short-term international consultants presented and elaborated European standards on different aspects of PPS, highlighting the importance of having those standards in the core of the reforms. At the same time presentations made by the representatives of General Prosecutor’s Office described the policy behind the initiation of the PPS, its interrelation to Moldovan justice reform policy; importance of the PPS reform in the international perspective, and what institutional changes should be done for the meaningful reform. The main changes of the PPS introduced by the draft Law on PPS were presented and widely discussed.
It was agreed with the beneficiaries that, within the scope of the “Support to Criminal Justice Reforms in the Republic of Moldova, similar seminars will be organized in Chisinau and in regions of Moldova, after the adoption of the new Law on PPS.
During the Seminar the participants cold conclude that for the efficiency of the Public Prosecution Service reform it is necessary to ensure the rule of law, respect for European standards and protection of human rights. |
