Mayors in Moldova – Leaders for change The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe has organised, in close co-operation with the Congress of Local Authorities from Moldova (CALM), a workshop “Mayors – Leaders for change” in Chisinau on 5-7 October 2015. This workshop was designed for mayors in Moldova and aimed to provide a platform for exchange on local democracy. By involving members of the Congress and local authorities from Europe, mayors have shared best practices and d their knowledge of standards of local self-governance. They have been invited to reflect on how to lead change, how to enhance trust in local authorities and citizen participation in an ethical decision-making process.

E-Compendium of the Council of Europe documents on combating prison overcrowding

Within the framework of the PCF Regional Project “Promoting penitentiary reforms (from a punitive to a rehabilitative approach)” have been developed an e-compendium in a format of a book of the Council of Europe CM recommendations and extracts from the CPT General Reports on combating prison overcrowding in Romanian.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR THE LOCAL SHORT-TERM CONSULTANTS FOR THE CoE/EU PROJECT “STRENGTHENING THE EFFICIENCY OF JUSTICE AND SUPPORT TO LAWYERS PROFESSION IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA”

The Council of Europe is looking for candidates with extensive professional experience at the national level in areas of work related to efficiency and quality of justice and/or court management and familiarity with the delivery of international technical assistance, in view of their involvement as national Council of Europe consultants within the Project “Strengthening the efficiency of justice and support to lawyers’ profession in the Republic of Moldova”.

Freedom of Expression: still a precondition for democracy?

The Council of Europe brings together top judges, government officials and activists to address current challenges to freedom of expression at a conference in Strasbourg

Some 300 participants in a conference in Strasbourg on 13-14 October – open to the media – will assess serious ramifications to free expression from such recent events as the brutal assault against Charlie Hebdo journalists in Paris in January. Attorney at Law of Charlie Hebdo, Richard Malka, for example, will count among participants, including European Court of Human Rights judges, national judges, journalists and representatives from media freedom organisations, governments and international organisations.

CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR THE ROLE OF SHORT-TERM NATIONAL CONSULTANT FOR THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE PROJECT “SUPPORT TO THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORMS IN THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA”

The Council of Europe is looking for candidates with extensive professional experience, solid knowledge of the Moldovan legislation in the areas of justice and human rights (with a specific focus on criminal justice system) and relevant basic knowledge of international standards in the related field,, in view of their involvement as national Council of Europe consultants in cooperation activities between the Council of Europe and the authorities of the Republic of Moldova under the Project “Support to the Criminal Justice Reforms in the Republic of Moldova” funded by the Government of Denmark.
